Our Leadership



Dr. Joel T. Cramer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition & Health Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). He earned a B.A. in Exercise Science from Creighton University in 1997 as well as masters (M.P.E.) and doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees in Exercise Physiology from UNL in 2003. He is a Fellow of the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and International Society for Sports Nutrition (ISSN). Prior to returning to Nebraska in 2012, Dr. Cramer held academic appointments at the University of Texas at Arlington (2003-05), University of Oklahoma (2005-11), and Oklahoma State University (2011-12). He directs the Neuromuscular Research and Imaging Laboratory where his lab team studies the interactions between exercise and nutrition during growth and development in young athletes, aging in older adults, and the safety and efficacy of dietary supplements. Dr. Cramer also teaches courses on the integration of exercise and nutrition (NUTR 250 Human Nutrition & Metabolism, NUTR 858 Exercise, Sports & Performance Nutrition, and NUTR 494/894 Essentials of Strength Training & Conditioning). Joel has served elected terms as the Secretary-Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the NSCA and Secretary-Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Central States Chapter of the ACSM. Joel was an assistant coach for Union Bank Youth Football for 3 seasons, served one year as the Secretary-Treasurer for LMF, and was elected in 2018 as the President of LYF. Joel and his wife, Jennifer, have 5 children: Nick is an NCAA gymnast at Springfield College in Massachusetts, Dane is a USAG gymnast for the Nebraska School of Gymnastics, Kelly is a competitive cheerleader for the Nebraska Cheer Center and a member of the Lincoln Southwest High School cheer squad, Cole played football for Union Bank from 2014-16, and Beau has played football for Union Bank as well as several youth basketball teams.


I’ve been involved with Lincoln Youth Football Since 1992. I’ve coached at every level and was the sponsor representative For Union Bank Football from 2001-2015. I had the privilege to serve as President of Lincoln Midget Football for the 2016 & 2017 seasons, and I’m now serving as the Commissioner for Lincoln Youth Football.
I’m married to my wife Sherri, we have 3 kids and live just outside of Lincoln. I work full time for Lincoln Fire Rescue.
