The Lincoln Police Department has been a sponsor of Lincoln Midget Football since the late 1950’s. In fact, the majority of Lincoln Police’s coaching staff are actual Lincoln Police Officers. The first police force for the City of Lincoln was formed in July of 1870. The desire to create the police force originated with the City Board, who felt that an influx of immoral and lawless people from other cities were having a negative impact on the community. The first Lincoln Police Officers earned $2 per day, and by the turn of the century were receiving $960 per year. Today, the Lincoln Police Department employs over 300 commissioned officers, and over 100 civilian employees.
